Murphy has had the distinct privilege of living in multiple historically prominent music cities, and has been able to learn something unique from each. Born and raised in Kansas City, he got his start playing bass at the age of ten and started playing piano shortly after; he absorbed his musicality from his father and went on to graduate from the University of Kansas with a degree in Jazz Studies. After graduating, he lived in New Orleans as a full time musician where he learned the importance of making both the audience and the performers feel good through music. Now, he resides in Minneapolis-producing, writing, and playing music full time. Murphy's passion is to make music that feels simultaneously comfortable and familiar, yet new and inventive.
